Aluminum or PVC – the advantages of both solutions

Aluminum or PVC – the advantages of both solutions

Until recently, aluminum windows and doors have been associated with modern office buildings. Recently, investors have started fitting them in single-family housing. PVC windows are, in turn, a more affordable solution. What are the advantages of both?

The advantages of aluminum windows and doors

Aluminum windows and doors look great in large-size facilities. They add lightness and air to the building. They can also be successfully used in renovated buildings, including historic ones. However, the greatest advantage of aluminum is that it is a very durable and lightweight material. Aluminum is highly resistant to moisture, mechanical damage and UV rays, and also resistant to the passage of time. The use of aluminum, unlike PVC, allows the implementation of the boldest architectural visions, even those with unusual shapes and sizes. That is why aluminum is the architects’ favourite material. Contrary to popular opinion, aluminum structures perfectly meet the stringent energy standards, so they can be successfully used in low-emission buildings. Aluminum windows and doors can actually be painted in any colour you can think of. This allows you to create unique projects that will stand out from the crowd.

The advantages of PVC

The main advantage of PVC windows and doors is their price. It is the cheapest solution among all types of window and door joinery available on the market. Such solutions are easy to maintain, have low thermal transmittance coefficients, therefore they can be used in passive construction. PVC is resistant to weather conditions, although in this respect it is still inferior to aluminum solutions. PVC windows and doors, similarly to those made of aluminum, can come in many colours. Fortunately, the times when only white windows were available on the market are gone forever.

Aluminum or PVC?

A straightforward answer is not possible. All solutions currently available on the market have very good thermal and functional parameters. First of all, you should look at the house design and consider these key questions:

  • What are the dimensions of the glazing in the building?
  • Which direction your windows face?
  • What budget can you spend on windows and doors?
  • What type of wall structure is used in the facility?

If you answer these questions, it will certainly be easier for you to make a smart decision and choose the right type of windows and doors for your building.
